This
type of success is no accident; it has been built year by year
on the achievements of outstanding young men and women who were
given the opportunity to excel both on and off the field. The
victories, the championships, and the pride are the essence of
Santa Clara athletics, as is the dedication to academic excellence
that also characterizes this first-class institution.
The
east side of the university's campus consists of three prominent
athletic facilities: the Leavey Center, Buck Shaw Stadium and
the SCU Tennis Center. The Leavey Center is named after the late
founder of Farmers Insurance, Thomas E. Leavey, who graduated
from Santa Clara in 1922. It is the home of the Broncos's men's
and women's basketball and women's volleyball teams.

Besides
serving as the home for the Broncos soccer team, the 6,800-seat
facility, Buck Shaw Stadium also houses Santa Clara baseball.
A new era in Broncos tennis debuted in 1999 with the introduction
of the Santa Clara Tennis Center. It is the home of both the men's
and women's programs while it also serves recreational opportunities
for the community. The facility includes nine championship lighted
courts and the east side of the center is highlighted by the Player's
Circle, a landscaped knoll that provides hillside seating for
matches, as well as space for team meetings and hospitality receptions.
In all, it's a facility that reflects the energy and intimacy
of a collegiate environment.
Broncos
sports teams boast a tradition of excellence and annually compete
for conference and national championships in 17 intercollegiate
sports. SCU has won national championships in men's and women's
soccer and is one of the West Coast Conference's top broad-based
sports programs. Club sports teams annually compete for regional
championships, and the recreational sports program offers several
intramural sports, lifetime fitness classes, and events throughout
the year.
